SmartSPARK: Transformed by Conflict, Empowered by Victory

Mission: To equip emerging and seasoned leaders with strategies, skills and key principles they need as change agents,  to transform conflicts into stepping stones that empower victorious relationships

Everyone is born with a spark in their heart that cannot be ignited alone. It takes relationships with others to fully ignite who we are. However, just as one spark can burn down a whole forest, one word inappropriately spoken can destroy a relationship. Therefore, we must be smart with our SPARK. SmartSPARK!

About Conflict Transformation:

Rather than manage conflict or work toward reframing positions, Conflict Transformation addresses deeply embedded patterns of relating that often predate the current conflict at hand. It views conflict not as one event, but a gradual, complex process that demands engagement and interaction over time.

Frequently, when a conflict is “resolved,” individuals remain angry and tend to manage or conceal their true emotions. Conflict Transformation goes deeper, evoking an authentic dialogue that creates real understanding and lasting forgiveness.

smartSPARK is Unique

SmartSPARK renovates perceptions and assumptions about conflict from the ground up. With our roots in Conflict Transformation, we utilize strategies and methods that respectfully engage participants in, and build upon, their own wisdom and experiences. We train them to get under layers of defenses, right to the heart of an issue, and engage in a true dialogue.

We offer Interactive Empowerment Sessions, Keynote Speaking Engagements and One-on-One Consultations that reframe conflict as a dramatically different experience than the status quo.

Meet “Dr. B”

Dr. Barbara Green Moses, President of smartSPARK, LLC

Dr. B started smartSPARK, LLC in June 2014 following a stellar forty-six year career in both public and private education. Because of the violence she encountered in public schools, she was trained as a conflict mediator through the Good Shepherd Mediation Program. As a result of learning how to appropriately reconcile and transform conflict, Barbara’s relationships; family, church, professional, and international were utterly transformed.

Her passion for conflict transformation continues to grow and she is committed to equipping others with the necessary skills to strengthen their interpersonal, family, professional and global relationships.

Informal Case Study:

When Barbara founded Philadelphia Mennonite High School (PMHS, the first Mennonite High School located in a major metropolitan area), her previous training and co-authoring of a Conflict Resolution Curriculum greatly informed the peacemaking component of the school’s mission. The strategies and skills needed to transform conflicts combined with a restorative justice model of discipline created a wonderful, family-oriented, peaceful environment.

Students were equipped with the principles needed to accept responsibility for their actions and taught how to manage their own attitudes and responses. After being trained in 9th grade, 10th grade students taught what they had learned to elementary school children.

Equipping students in conflict management transformed their relationships in school, at home and in the community. During PMHS’ 16-year history there was a ten-year period of no physical altercations, and there were only eight altercations total. Students could truly focus on learning in a peaceful, loving environment, and over 98% were accepted into college.
